Our Integrated Model Keeps Your Mouth Healthy and Your Overall Health Optimized

Dentist in Cambridge, WI.

Our teeth play an important role in our everyday lives. They help us break down food so we can digest our meals properly. They're essential for clear communication, allowing us to articulate sounds and form words effectively. Visually, they shape our smiles, influence our expressions, and impact our interactions with others. Beyond these functions, our teeth also have a significant effect on our overall health.

There's a lot to discuss when it comes to prioritizing our health, yet one crucial aspect often overlooked is dental care. Many people don't realize that a cavity can have repercussions that go far beyond the mouth. In fact, oral health and overall well-being are more intertwined than you might imagine.

Issues with oral health can contribute to a range of serious conditions, including heart disease and diabetes. Despite the increasing research highlighting this connection, dental care frequently operates in isolation from the broader healthcare system. Prime Health Dental bridges that gap with integrated dental services, providing

Happy Mouth, Happy Body

A smile is a simple gesture that carries immense power. It's a natural part of being human-a universal way to express happiness, greet others, and show that we're friendly. Smiles convey our emotions and are excellent for breaking the ice or diffusing awkward moments. A warm smile can make a huge difference, but if you're like most people, it might not always be perfect, and that's perfectly fine. But is it good for your health?

According to studies from the CDC, one in four U.S. adults aged 20 to 64 has cavities. Even more startling is the fact that approximately 34 million school hours are lost each year due to emergency dental visits. For kids, missing school can mean the difference between advancing in their studies or falling behind.

If you're among those who feel self-conscious about their teeth, need preventive care, or are dealing with more serious problems like tooth decay, it's essential to prioritize the health of your teeth and gums. Fortunately, at Prime Health Dental, your dentist in Cambridge, WI. offers traditional dental services infused with medical insights that you can use to enhance your overall health.

By now, you know that great oral care is paramount to your overall health. By addressing the root factors that cause issues like swollen and bleeding gums, you can help prevent more serious health issues from occurring.

Understanding the Connection Between Inflammation, Heart Concerns, and Gum Disease

Gum disease and gingivitis can cause inflammation to occur in your body, driving your immune system to target external microorganisms and irritants for healing. When this inflammation becomes chronic, it may negatively impact other areas of your health.

A study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine has shown a connection between gum disease and heart problems, potentially leading to serious events like strokes or heart attacks, with inflammation suspected as a key factor. Furthermore, inflammation can contribute to artery hardening, reducing blood flow to the heart and elevating cardiovascular disease risk. Lifestyle factors such as smoking and poor diet, along with high cholesterol, can further increase the likelihood of heart attack or stroke.

As both the scientific and medical communities begin to take inflammation seriously, we're discovering that gum disease can contribute to heart problems through these pathways:

Bacteria in Your Blood

Some might dismiss this situation as a mere coincidence or attribute it to careless lifestyle habits. However, research indicates that Streptococcus sanguis-a type of bacteria linked to gum disease-can make its way to your heart, potentially setting the stage for a stroke. These bacteria may also be found in fat deposits in individuals with atherosclerosis. Notably, those who do not suffer from gum disease are less likely to have these bacteria in their hearts.

The Composition of Your Mouth

Blood vessels are abundant in your gum tissue. Your mouth also hosts its own unique microbiome, but factors like gum disease or certain lifestyle choices can throw this balance off. This connection means that bacteria can easily enter your bloodstream through your gums, particularly when the tissue becomes inflamed or irritated.

Treatment Tips from Prime Health Dental

While we're still waiting for definitive evidence that proves how flossing and brushing can lower the risk of heart disease, great oral care is still very important. To that point, your dentist in Cambridge, WI. from Prime Health Dental will provide you with tips to reduce inflammation from the source. Some of that advice may include:

  • Schedule dental checkups twice a year to have plaque removed and your teeth examined and thoroughly cleaned.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day at a minimum. Floss at least once a day. Brush your teeth for at least two minutes per session. Try to use toothpaste from a brand that includes fluoride in its product.
  • Don't use alcohol or tobacco.
  • Eat a clean, healthy diet free of starchy and sugary foods.
  • Speak with your dentist about the early signs of gum disease. If you notice the signs in your own mouth, contact Prime Health Dental for an appointment.

The Bayside Conference Championships for high school basketball has been decided at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, as Stephen Decatur's boys basketball team and the girls basketball team for the Queen Anne's County Lions both walked away triumphant Tuesday evening.

It was a night that featured rematches in both of the conference championship games, as Wi-Hi would battle Queen Anne's in the girls title game, and Decatur would go toe-to-toe with Cambridge in the boys game. And in both games, the team that fell last year got their revenge and lifted the Bayside title when all was said in done.

First up was the girls championship game, and from beginning to end, Queen Anne's was a step ahead of Wi-Hi, playing solid defense and executing an efficient offense. After jumping out to an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Queen Anne's would only extend its lead as the game continued, ultimately winning 46-24. Bea Holthaus led the way for Queen Anne's with 21 points.

Immediately following was the boys championship game between Stephen Decatur and Cambridge-South Dorchester, and it followed much of the same script as the girls game. Stephen Decatur, playing strong zone defense, was able to slow down Cambridge and force long three-point attempts and turnovers. And on offense, senior Davin Chandler led the way for Decatur as he has all season long, scoring at will for the Seahawks.

Chandler scored 30 points in the Seahawks' 60-48 championship victory, many of them on drives to the basket and in the paint against a Cambridge defense that was focused on slowing him down. Fellow Seahawks like Judah Carmack, Soloman David, Caleb Loring and Jonathan Purnell each contributed on both ends of the floor as well, helping to stifle Cambridge's offense and scoring timely points for Decatur.

Next up for all four teams is the regional playoffs. All four teams have received byes in the first round of the regional playoffs, and each will begin their playoff runs at home in the regional semifinals next week.

The Scoop: Cambridge's Kian Bystol Flores likes what he sees of his future despite coming up short at WM Phoenix Open Pre-Qualifying

GLENDALE, Ariz. — There are nine WM Phoenix Open pre-qualifiers this week, each with 80 golfers vying for the top two spots (plus ties) just to get to Monday's open qualifier where as many as 156 golfers will compete for the final three spots in next week's PGA Tour extravaganza.Yet, against those odds, there was Kian Bystol Flores on the 10th tee Wednesday at The Legend at Arrowhead, trying to get there....

GLENDALE, Ariz. — There are nine WM Phoenix Open pre-qualifiers this week, each with 80 golfers vying for the top two spots (plus ties) just to get to Monday's open qualifier where as many as 156 golfers will compete for the final three spots in next week's PGA Tour extravaganza.

Yet, against those odds, there was Kian Bystol Flores on the 10th tee Wednesday at The Legend at Arrowhead, trying to get there.

"My main motivation to play was it being yet another chance to prove what I can do," the Cambridge High School senior wrote via text to The Scoop after shooting a 3-over-par 74 and finishing T-34 out of 70 golfers who returned a scorecard (another 12 withdrew, didn't show or didn't turn in a score). "My dad and I were discussing the idea a couple weeks prior and I was all for it. Being able to escape the Wisconsin winter was awesome as well."

By Arizona standards, the conditions were more Cambridge-like than Phoenix-like with temperatures in the upper 40s and a light rain — the first precipitation in the Valley of the Sun in more than 150 days — when Bystol Flores began his round.

He began his round with a double-bogey on the par-5 10th hole and ended it with a double-bogey on the par-4 ninth. In between, Bystol Flores showed great resolve, making more birdies (four) than bogeys (three) and learning to deal with a course that measured 6,955 yards on the scorecard, but played longer in the cool, damp conditions and had its fair share of tricky hole locations.

"My experience was very positive," wrote Bystol Flores, who played two groups in front of another Wisconsin golfer, Matt Polivka, the Muskego native who went from the club team at nearby Grand Canyon University to the NCAA Division I team and is now working as an assistant professional at Anthem Golf & Country Club just north of Phoenix. "My round was filled with a lot of ups and downs with a shaky start, but that’s what makes me want to come back. To make it out of these qualifiers, you need to have your best. There isn’t room for very many bad holes or costly shots.

"I expected the winter rust and struggles that come with not being able to play real golf for a long time every winter. It definitely showed up early, but I always pride myself in the way I bounce back and I did that pretty well today. I did not expect to struggle with my putter as much as I did. I missed three par putts inside four feet and three-putted multiple times. I couldn’t really find my stroke and I struggled to control my speeds, leaving myself with multiple testers for par. I was surprised at how accurate I was with my short-to-mid irons and wedges."

Bystol Flores, who recently announced his intentions to start his college golf career at Central Alabama Community College, may not have made it through to the next stage in the scramble for the final three berths in the WM Phoenix Open. The Greatest Show on Grass. The People's Open.

"I learned a lot about my game in this qualifier," wrote Bystol Flores, the 2023 WIAA Division 3 state champion and 2024 state runner-up whose senior season with the Blue Jays is two months away. "The biggest thing for me is seeing that I can compete with the best from 7000-plus yards and tough conditions. I’m staying patient and letting everything fall into place, waiting for my time to start making an impact on the big stage, whether it’s big junior events, amateur events, or pro events in the future. The WMO is definitely one of the tournaments that I see myself playing in down the line and playing in this qualifier was just the start of that journey."
